- Licensing options
  PLA 3.0 offers a flexible licensing model designed for both individual users and multi-user environments. The licensing option you select determines how many users can access PLA 3.0 at the same time. It also determines on how many computers you can install PLA 3.0.
- Information packages
  Information packages play a central role in the installation and licensing process. They contain key data required to get PLA 3.0 up and running in your environment.
- Activate your license
  To activate your PLA 3.0 license, you install a software key on the computer or license server that should hold the PLA 3.0 license. Activating the PLA 3.0 license automatically activates the license keys for your add-ons.
- Transfer your license
  PLA 3.0 licenses are tied to the computer on which you activated them. You need to transfer the license in cases such as reinstalling or renaming the computer, or when retiring it and activating the license on a different system.
  - Collect recipient information
    Create a recipient information (.id) file to collect information about the computer to which you want to transfer the PLA 3.0 license (recipient computer).
  - Generate the license transfer file
    Generate the license transfer (.h2h) file to combine information about the source computer with details about the license you want to transfer and hardware information of the recipient computer.
  - Apply the license transfer file
    Apply the license transfer (.h2h) file to the computer that should receive the license (recipient computer).
- Manage existing licenses
  Learn how to increase the number of concurrent users, replace a hardware key with a software key, or cross-upgrade from a Seat license to a Concurrent use license.
- Licenses on a Sentinel license server
  By default, clients can access all Sentinel license servers running in the same subnet. If you operate several subnets or want to restrict the access of clients to a license server, you have to control the access accordingly.
- Legacy protection keys
  We recommend software keys for license activation. However, we also support legacy protection keys, namely hardware-based Sentinel protection keys and hardlock keys.

Regulatory compliance

Transfer your license

PLA 3.0 licenses are tied to the computer on which you activated them. You need to transfer the license in cases such as reinstalling or renaming the computer, or when retiring it and activating the license on a different system.

Important:

Create a backup of any PLA database located on the computer in question and save the backup on a different computer. The content of locally stored databases cannot be recovered if the hardware or operating system of the computer holding the database is changed.

About this task

Make sure you have permissions to install programs and to write in the C:\ProgramData directory.
If you want to use the recipient computer as a license server, make sure the license server and computers running PLA 3.0 are connected via a local network, and port 1947 is open for TCP and UDP connections on all systems.
Download the PLA 3.0 license system setup file from https://www.bioassay.de/software. On this site, you have to fill in the form to access the download area. Run the setup file as an administrator to install the PLA License Key Manager and the PLA License Control Center that you will use during the licensing process.

Note:

If you use a USB dongle for the license (hardware key or hardlock key), you can remove it from the source computer and plug it into the recipient computer. Depending on the type of the dongle, it may be necessary to install extra software. For details, see Legacy protection keys.
