Activate your license

To activate your PLA 3.0 license, you install a software key on the computer or license server that should hold the PLA 3.0 license. Activating the PLA 3.0 license automatically activates the license keys for your add-ons.

Note: We recommend software keys for license activation. For details on legacy hardware keys, see the Legacy protection keys topic.

Before you begin

  • To install the software key, you use the PLA License Key Manager. You access this application using the respective shortcut on your desktop. If this shortcut is not available, make sure the PLA 3.0 license system is installed. For details, see the Installation tasks topic.

  • If you set up licensing through a license server, make sure the license server and computers running PLA 3.0 are connected via a local network, and port 1947 is open for TCP and UDP connections on all systems.

About this task

In the PLA License Key Manager, you work with the following files:
  • Customer-to-Vendor (.c2v) file: You create this file to collect status information about the computer or license server you want to license.

  • Vendor-to-Customer file (.v2c) file: Once we receive your .c2v file, we create the .v2c file for you. This file contains the actual license information.

In the following example, the license is applied to a license server:
