Some document types let you choose between different options for elements. These
options are mutually exclusive, that is, you can only select one alternative at a time.
Tip: You can identify alternatives by a downward arrow next to the element
name.
About this task
PLA 3.0 supports alternatives for elements and values.
Alternative elements let you choose which element you want to define in the same
place in the document structure. In the following example, you can choose between
different sequence types for the preparation scheme of a Quantitative response assay:Figure 1. Alternative ways to define a sequence type for a Quantitative response
assay
Alternative elements let you choose how you want to set the value for an element. In
the following example, you can choose between referencing a central document with
operator information or defining operator information in your document:Figure 2. Two Operator elements in a Quantitative response assay document, one
references an Operator document and one is the Operator name as text
input
Procedure
To select an alternative:
Select the element with the drop-down list.
Click on the arrow to see the alternatives.
Select the alternative that fits your assay and enter the respective
value.
Note: The control type of the elements' value and the possibility to
append children depend on the element you selected.
