3. Migrate your packages to add-ons

PLA versions earlier than 3.0.5 use packages to provide analytical methods, data acquistion capabilities, and additional tools. Starting with version 3.0.5, add-ons provide the analytical methods. To use the full add-on functionality, we recommend migrating your existing packages to add-ons.

Note:
This update step is optional and applies only to PLA versions 3.0.4 and earlier. It supports the deployment change from packages to add-ons and does not affect your package version, data, or results.
If your database has packages requiring migration, you see a note at the top of the Home tab at the right side of the PLA 3.0 main window.
Notification bar in a software window with a yellow background reading 'Note: Database migration is incomplete. Please migrate your packages to add-ons.'

About this task

To migrate your packages, you activate the corresponding add-on in your database.

Important:
Activating an add-on does not remove the corresponding package from your hard drive. To uninstall a package, you need to use the Programs and Features list in the Windows Control Panel.

Procedure

To migrate a package:
  1. Select the database migration note.
  2. In the Database migration is incomplete dialog, select the Add-on management link.
Results: The Add-ons tab opens. PLA 3.0 filters the list of add-ons and you see only add-ons with packages requiring migration.
    Tip:
You can also identify these add-ons by a database icon with a yellow overlay ().
  3. On the Add-ons tab, expand the add-on whose package you want to migrate, right-click the required version, and then select Activate.
Example: In the following example, you migrate version 23 of the Biological Assay Package:

Results: PLA 3.0 adds the add-on to the repository () and activates it in the database ().
  4. If sample documents and templates are available for the add-on you activate, the Add sample documents and templates dialog opens and displays the respective data. To download the data, complete the following steps:
    1. Select the data you want to download.
    2. Select a target folder.
    3. Select OK, and then select Close.
In the following example, you download sample data for the Dose-Response Analysis Package.

  5. Proceed with the remaining add-ons in the same way.
  6. After you migrated all packages, you see a message that no more add-ons are available. Select the reset filter icon () in the top-right corner of the Add-on management to view all add-ons available to you.
    Note:
Which add-ons are available depends on your information package.
