Update from PLA versions 2.x

Update your environment from PLA 2.x to benefit from the latest innovations and improvements of PLA 3.0.7.

Note:
For details on how to update your environment from an earlier version of PLA 3.0, see the Update from an earlier PLA 3.0 version topic.

Before you begin

We recommend creating a current backup of your system and database before you begin. For details, see the Backup and restore topic.

Important:
PLA 3.0 uses a different database structure than PLA 2.x. You cannot connect PLA 3.0 to your existing PLA 2.x database or reuse its permissions. Instead, create a new database, define a new permission model, and import any data you want to retain.

About this task

If you are using PLA 2.x and plan to migrate to PLA 3.0, note that there is no predefined migration path. However, we offer a set of recommendations to help you plan your update. To support you further, we offer step-by-step guidance that you can follow in the order that best fits your setup and requirements.

Our recommendations:
  • We recommend installing PLA 3.0 alongside PLA 2.x. This way, your daily operation is not affected, and you can install and configure PLA 3.0 and migrate your data without interruption.

  • PLA 3.0 stores assay data in a different way. Therefore, you cannot transfer your data directly from PLA 2.x to PLA 3.0. While manual migration is possible, we recommend using the add-ons of the PLA 3.0 Migration and Archiving Toolkit for migration. They guide you through the migration process step-by-step, reducing effort and the risk of errors.

The following figure guides you through the process of updating from a PLA 2.x version. The update includes the steps installation, migration, and validation. For details on each step, see the respective subtopic.
Three-step process with icons: software (install desktop icon), migrate assay data (rotation and layout icon), and validation (checklist icon), numbered 1 to 3 to indicate a sequence of steps.

For details on the main differences between PLA 2.x and PLA 3.0, see the Comparison between PLA 2.x and PLA 3.0 topic.

Note:
Your PLA 2.1 license is also valid for PLA 3.0. You can keep using your Sentinel HL USB dongle or hardlock dongle.

Procedure

To update from PLA versions 2.x:
  1. Install and set up PLA 3.0.
  2. Migrate your assay data.
  3. Validate PLA 3.0 in your environment.

What to do next

After you completed the migration, you can retire your PLA 2.x environment.
