Create templates from documents

Create templates from existing documents, for example to develop a standardized process from an existing assay.

About this task

Creating a template from a document is a three-step procedure. In the first step, you create the template. In the second step, you remove annotations and observations from the new template document. In the third step, you define protection settings and configure initial values.

Procedure

To create a template from an existing document:
  1. Open the document that you want to convert into a template.
  2. Go to the menu bar and select File > Save as template.
  3. In the following dialog, select a target folder to save the template and confirm with OK.
    Result: The new template is saved and displayed in the document pane.
To remove annotations and observations:
  1. Go to the Dashboard.
    Result:

    If the template has annotations, you see a message at the top of the dashboard. You also see the Remove annotations button in the action bar.

  2. Select Remove annotations.
  3. Select Yes to confirm the removal.
  4. Go to the Observations editor.
  5. To remove all observation data, select all data columns and then select Remove.
To define protection settings:
  1. Apply permissions and initial values to document elements.
