Perform database maintenance

Perform database maintenance to, for example, reinitialize the list of document properties.

Note: Depending on the database, maintenance may take considerable time.

Procedure

To perform database maintenance:
  1. From the System menu, select Database maintenance.
  2. Select the Mode you want to use for the database maintenance:
    OptionDescription

    Start new maintenance

    Starts a new database maintenance.

Note: This writes a DB_MAINTENANCE_STARTED entry to the audit trail.

Start new maintenance with reinitialization of the list of document properties

Starts a new database maintenance that also reinitializes the list of document properties. Use this option if your Biological assay package is older than version 24 and you upgrade to version 24 or newer.

Note: This operation temporarily locks the database.

    Resume incomplete maintenance

Resumes the most recent database maintenance.

Tip: This option only becomes available when maintenance has not been completed, which occurs when users cancel maintenance or maintenance skips documents because they are locked.
  3. Select Proceed.

A progress dialog shows the maintenance steps.

Note: The Rebuilding digest task is performed when structural changes occur in the document digest. This may require an update of existing documents.
Result: The yellow status bar at the bottom of the dialog displays the result and supporting information.
    Message Description

    Database maintenance complete

Confirms that all maintenance tasks have been completed successfully.

    Database maintenance incomplete

Indicates that either a user canceled maintenance or documents were skipped because they were locked. When maintenance is incomplete, the Resume incomplete maintenance option becomes available in the Database maintenance dialog.

Note: This writes a DB_MAINTENANCE_INCOMPLETE entry to the audit trail.

    Database maintenance failed

Results from an internal error. Database maintenance was not executed.
